Doing It All Wrong
Ruling Pen Play
10.22 It began as just a way to make marks. Make marks the way I wanted, the way I needed. A pencil? Not quite bold enough. A brush? Not the control I wanted. A calligraphy nib? Getting closer but just not enough paint. Hmmm, maybe a ruling pen? Adjustable nib holds more. rigid control, I may be onto something. Big puddles of paint, thin strokes, fat strokes, the control that perfectly suits my more visceral drawing style, a little bit of unpredictabilty teamed with fearless whim. Woohoo! I found it!
Did I know it’s history, it’s story, it’s purpose, it’s beginning? Kinda.
Did I care that much? Not really.
Did it serve my purpose? Yup!
And that’s all I need to know.
